As I mentioned in my last post, the music mixes I compile are fueled by a never-ending review of new albums. I'm like a prospector, hunting for that nugget of musical gold that speaks to me. If I come across even one song from a whole album that makes me stop what I'm doing and look at the track name, I'm happy. If I'm lucky, my favorite songs of late will fit together with some flow and continuity in a mix. And I suppose that's not so rare, since I'm often drawn to the same style of music over and over: melodic pop-rooted rock layered with vocal harmonies, expansive instrumentation, and sonic clarity.
My latest (and 45th) mix, Era Tones, is a compilation of songs I've been mostly listening to since August of 2010. I just created a themed audio clip to kick it off, and it's attached to the first track, Runaway. The track list is as follows:
1) Runaway (with Era Tones Intro) - Maroon 5
2) Let Love Flow (Queens of the Stone Age VS Lenny Kravitz) - Pheugoo
3) Long Way Around - Greg Laswell
4) Julie June - A Silent Film
5) Children of the Ground - Midlake
6) I'm In Here - Sia
7) When Frank Became An Orb - Fossil Collective
8) The Moment She Knew - NoSound
9) United States of Eurasia (+ Collateral Damage) - Muse
10) Without A Fight - Fossil Collective
11) What's Wrong - Alex Lloyd
12) Out of Goodbyes (with Lady Antebellum) - Maroon 5
13) Good Place - David Archuleta
Download Instructions:
At MediaFire.com you'll be asked to download a zip file. I just saw that Mediafire now has flashing ads that say "download!" to to get you to view their ads. (Time to find a new hosting site.) So, BE SURE to wait a few seconds and then click in the YELLOW box that says "Click here to start download from MediaFire". (See this post for more instructions and a screen shot of what to look for.) Once the zip file (labeled 45 Era Tones 2011) is downloaded, double click it and the file with the songs will show up. To download the mix, click here!

For lack of a better method, I've changed the song info (or metadata) to show the artist as davetune mix. This way if you drag the songs to iTunes you won't have single tracks showing up all over your library, and the song order will stay intact. To see the actual artist names in iTunes, go to the View menu then select View Options. Click the Composer box, and then drag the Composer column in your iTunes play window over to the left. If you have any questions about all these instructions, just let me know. I could just give a cassette of the mix if you prefer!
Lastly, if you're interested in why I selected each song, click here to be taken to my secondary blog, The Sidebar. Hope you enjoy it!

I did it! Downloaded it, burned a disc for my car, and am now listening to it on ITunes (but through my headphones so I don't bother the early-to-bed neighbors downstairs.)
Now your friends will know I'm a novice at this sort of thing!
I like what I'm hearing - congrats!
Great mix, Heckux. I love the opening track. It defines the record. Well done. Plus, all of the tags and album art came through.
Good mix!

What the heck? David Archuleta but no Porcupine Tree? I'm so proud.
