Back to Blogging - Pic of the Week

Mr. Fuzzy Caterpillar has been up for a long time on Hecoxian Ways, and personally, I'm sick of looking at him. So, something new to look at?  Ah yes...better. I've been really busy, but mixed in the madness of the last couple months has been some work on other mediums. So it was good to take a break and get a few non-computer related projects finished, such as helping Jess pick out and put together several photo frames...with REAL pictures! It will be fun to have new photos on the walls. Next up in that regard should be updating the flower images in the den. Any suggestions on images I should choose?

Here is a favorite pic of Andrew from a recent "batch" of photos. I imagine a lot of people have iPhoto manage their photos these days. I still create my own yearly folders and label each batch of photos with the date first, and then subject. It's funny and a little scary to think that I'll never fill another shoebox full of actual photos. Remember how you had to decide whether you were going to get singles or double prints? Then you'd inevitably pull the trigger on large 4x6 glossy doubles, and most of the photos would be horrible. It was like gambling on the potential of your roll. And whether it was a 24 or 36 image Kodak or Fugi roll, you always had to fill out the envelope for each roll, and drop them into a slot at the drug store. When the photos were finally ready, you'd stand there in the store peeking through them trying not to laugh, or let the 'junior assistant manager' working the photo counter see your bed head on that camping trip.

My first camera was one of those Vivitar models that needed a separate flash cartridge and took 110 film. Likely due to some lecturing from my Dad about the value of things, I was very careful to make sure every shot was a good one and worthwhile. I almost always think about this as I hold the shutter down on my DSLR and let seven shots run off in a single blast. Who cares if I'm shooting at something important or not? I really enjoy that part of digital. And seriously, do I really want to pay for film, pay for developing, and then find a place to store blurry photos? Hey, I better save my negatives, because I may want to pay for some extra prints, right? Hmm... I think I'd rather hit Command D and poof - instant copy!

Ok, I better stop the smug train here and immediately do another back up my hard drive, or else my karma will give out and my next post will be: "My hard drive died and I lost everything - Digital Stinks!"  Speaking of backing up, I recommend Super Duper software for Mac.  It's about $30 but worth it.
