Top Five - Albums of the Year

The New Year is upon us again and it's time to select my second annual Album of the Year. My criteria for contenders is that that I listened to the album for the very first time this year, or brushed the cobwebs off an old album and listened to it several times. Unlike a music critic who judges on many sophisticated levels (or at least they'd like you to think that), my year-end finalists are based solely on my own personal enjoyment. I picked albums I thought were well produced from start to finish, as well as those that I listened to the longest, or got the most 'mileage' from before shelving it.

I counted up 65 albums that I placed in my January through December playlists; so I averaged a little over five 'new' albums a month. It wasn't too hard to narrow down my top 10 albums. Picking five got a little trickier.

My five finalists are:

Young the Giant - Young the Giant (2011)

The Explorers Club - Freedom Wind (2008)

Foo Fighters - Wasting Light (2011)

The Silver Seas - Starry Gazey Pie (2004)

The Electric Soft Parade - No Need To Be Downhearted (2007)

All of these albums can be listened to in their entirety for free on Spotify. If you haven't signed up for Spotify, I highly recommend it. Check out my blog post here for more information. I'll announce my Album of the Year on December 31st. You're probably so excited that you won't sleep until then, right? ; )

Yeah, I recommend Spotify too! Suck it, Apple AirTunes.

Spotify blows my mind. I will use it to listen to these albums for free.
