Goodbye to My First Music Revolution

I just had the iPod's version of the emergency life support scenario. I tried for the last time to revive it with a hard boot, the Apple's users Zap the PRAM. I'm afraid it's officially dead. By the look of this list, I got my first iPod, the 30gb with new color screen, in 2004. It was a big deal. So much music could fit on it. And after using portable CD players that skipped, this was a music revolution for me. I hoped it would get one last time to shine in Hawaii this summer. The waterproof case and headphones I've had for years fits this model exactly. In 2007 I snorkeled with music for the first time and it was mind blowing. This was the scene when I exited after swimming among the fish listening to a custom playlist I had made for the occasion. Black Rock at Kaanapali Beach, Maui.

I moved on to the 120GB iPod and the original got put on the shelf. That is until it got a 2nd life as Andrew's bedroom music player. Every night for many years he's played the album Where We Are by Portland band Mackintosh Braun on it.

A while back it started glitching so I knew it was on its last leg. I'm sad to see it go. I still think the iPod has its merits over using a phone and/or Spotify. Even if the scrolling seems archaic now, it was cool to have a devoted music device to take you to a focused place, like 8 feet underwater, upside down, looking at the sky.
